College-Focused, Character-Driven, Community-Supported
The high-performance Summit Model is based on 10 non-negotiable principles and includes bi-annual intersessions for both students and teachers, which focus on best practices. Designed and developed by Summit Public Schools, Everest implements this model in preparing every student for success in four-year colleges.
Everest’s Non-Negotiable Principles:
High-performing teachers
High-performing teachers in every classroom, every period, every day fulfill Everest’s mission of college success for every student.
Everyone is capable of graduating “college ready”
For eight years the Summit Schools Model has shown that all students, no matter their preparation level through 8th grade, can be prepared for college success in four years: 100% of Summit graduates have completed the coursework required for acceptance to 4-year colleges.
No "tracking" system
All students have every door open to them upon graduation from high school; that’s our commitment and we teach all students on the same college-level track.
Heterogeneous student demographics and population
Everest provides an integrated school environment which mirrors our complex world and deepens both academic and social learning.
Physically and emotionally safe
Learning happens only when our community members first feel physically and emotionally safe. Everest is accountable for all aspects of providing and maintaining a safe culture and environment.
Every student is known
Pushing students to their academic limits requires genuine, trusting relationships that thrive in transparent environments. We and our students know and respect each other.
Character education counts
Academic education plus character equals success, and we propel student success by vigorously developing both learning and character development.
Research-based, best practice institution
As a Stanford University partner school, we make all major educational decisions based on sound research, and we devote considerable time to ensure that we consistently provide our students and families with best-in-class education practices.
Principle- vs. Rules-based
We work hard to create and maintain a high-trust community. Through the lens of our Valued Core Characteristics of courage, compassion, curiosity, integrity, respect, and responsibility, we commit ourselves to having ‘Teachable Moment’ conversations with students, which support them and ourselves to consistently live up to these values.
Do more with less
We believe that public education can be excellent even when public funds are limited and are committed to running an incredible school at or near, public school funding levels.
